Attorney Elisa Wang’s Team Joins Forces with the Consulate General of Mexico in Shanghai to Hold a Session of Mexico Investment Opportunities at the First Overseas Investment Conference

On March 26, 2026, the First Overseas Investment Conference, organized by the China Council for International Investment Promotion, opened at the Shanghai Eastern Hub International Business Cooperation Zone. The Session of Mexico’s Investment Opportunities was successfully held in that afternoon, with Attorney Elisa Wang hosting the event and delivering a keynote speech.

The session brought together representatives from government agencies and financial institutions, as well as professionals from the manufacturing and legal sectors in both China and Mexico. Distinguished guests included Miguel Ángel Isidro, Consul General of Mexico in Shanghai, and Esau Garza de Vega, Secretary of Economic Development of the State of Aguascalientes, Mexico, and other representatives of Mexican government agencies and consular institutions.

In Attorney Elisa Wang’s keynote speech, titled “Chinese Enterprises Investing in Mexico: Key Legal Considerations and Case Studies,” Attorney Elisa Wang provided a structured analysis of the key legal issues facing Chinese companies investing in Mexico. Her presentation covered four main areas: Mexico’s industrial strengths and key investment sectors, the impact of U.S. tariff policies, common legal risks encountered by Chinese investors, and compliance considerations for operating in Latin American markets. Attorney Elisa Wang noted that Mexico has become an important destination for foreign direct investment, supported by its abundant natural resources, cheap labor, established industrial system, and multilateral trade agreements, including the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Against the backdrop of uncertainty surrounding U.S. tariff policies, Attorney Elisa Wang examined the tariff arrangements available to Mexico under the USMCA and discussed recent policy developments. Drawing on practical case studies, she also analyzed potential legal risks for companies operating in Mexico, including differences in legal and regulatory, labor law compliance, intellectual property protection, and the judicial system. She emphasized that businesses should strengthen compliance and risk management while identifying and making use of emerging policy opportunities, in order to support sustainable operations in Mexico and across Latin America.

The panel discussion was moderated by Yake, a member of Attorney Elisa Wang’s team. Attorney Ke Ya exchanged views with representatives from industrial parks, Mexican financial institutions, and Chinese enterprises on practical issues relating to establishing and operating businesses in Mexico. The session attracted active participation from attendees. The discussion continued through the end of the event.
